Harrison St Sidewalk

In March 2026, the Civic Association endorsed a petition for the County to design what a sidewalk would look like on Harrison St from 16th St north to Big Walnut Park.

Whether you support or oppose a sidewalk, or are undecided, our goal as a civic association is to help ensure you are informed & can participate & be heard in the process.

Short takeaway: We are collecting your feedback on a design to share with the County--e.g., like a tree? Don't like a tree in your yard? Want it on your side, or not? And more.  County staff will then create a design, share it, meet with homeowners, and elicit more feedback.  We expect this meeting to happen in Fall 2026.  Once a design is finalized, the County will run a vote--homeowners of 60% of the land frontage must vote "yes" for a sidewalk to be built.

What happened? What's happening?

Your neighbors & block captains for this project sent a letter in March 2026 on the results of the petition and next steps.

The letter has details on how to share your feedback (direct or anonymous).

Your involvement will help lead to a better outcome.

"What will my yard look like?"

County staff provided these "after" images of sidewalk projects, which included landscaping and hardscaping.

Also, please take a walk to 15th St, from Inglewood St to Kennilworth St on the 2025 sidewalk just added there.

In 2025, neighbors on 15th St welcomed a new sidewalk in our neighborhood.

The County created a project-specific webpage that has project documents, like the prelim & final designs shown to neighbors for input.

This is a general guide of what the Harrison St process will look like.

Arlington Magazine featured our neighborhood and challenges in getting sidewalks built in a March 2026 article.

It focused on the 8-year process for a sidewalk on 15th N (pictured).
